Identification of algal rich microbial blooms in the Sellafield Pile Fuel Storage Pond and the application of ultrasonic treatment to control the formation of blooms

The aim of the project was to identify the microbial community in a nuclear storage pond, in order to determine which organisms were responsible for problematic blooms. The data was then used to change settings on ultrasonic units, with the goal of optimising bloom control strategies in the facility.
