Non-hydrostatic 3D numerical simulations were conducted using ANSYS Fluent commercial computational fluid dynamics software to study the impact of diel vertical migration of zooplankton on turbulence and current velocity. Simulations were initialized with velocity and density profiles from observations at two sites: the Straits of Florida and Saanich Inlet, British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Each model run covers 35 minutes (following a 2-hour spin-up). More details can be found in the associated paper.
