资源简介:
Photograph. "Job of demolition continues on Fashion League building -- Cautious wreckers know the structure might well collapse of its own accord. -- 'Darnest building you ever saw. Almost too rickety to tear down.' -- Lee Mead, president of World Wrecking Company, stood looking at the 46-year-old 'white elephant' Fashion League Building which the State of California bought for $450,000 in a deal first exposed by The Examiner. -- Workmen of Mead's company began razing the building nearly three months ago. They have until April to finish the job. But Mead said the allotted time may be 'just barely enough' to demolish the old structure at Second and Hill streets. -- 'Trouble with a building like this one,' he said, 'is that it can surprise you at a critical moment. Never know when it might collapse -- with you still in site it. It's'".... -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated 14 January 1957.
