Nematodes play several important roles in soil communities that can impact plant performance. Fertilizer applications designed to improve plant performance can have impacts on soil nematode communities, but we lack a general understanding of how different fertilizer regimes affect plant performance as mediated by changes in soil nematode communities. Here, we used a meta-analysis of 110 fertilization experiments to show that fertilizer type exerts a strong control on in nematodes and plant performance, globally.
