Curcuma longa also called turmeric, is a medicinal plant that is well known for the presence of plant secondary metabolites, curcuminoids. The importance of turmeric is the rhizome from where curcumin is obtained but the leaves are usually remained a waste. However, the leaves are also the good source of plant volatiles called essential oils which are significance for plant defense as well as for therapeutic application. Their biosynthesis is not known during different developmental stages of the curcuma longa and understanding how biosynthesis changes will be helpful for essential oil yield enhancement.
