Whole Genome Sequencing of Human Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 from a Clinical Case in Basrah City

A clinical sample was collected from a male child, aged 1.5 years, who was diagnosed with Herpetic Gingivostomatitis at Basra Teaching Hospital (Republican) in Basrah City, Iraq. Following collection, genomic DNA was extracted using standard isolation protocols. The extracted DNA underwent rigorous quality control assessments to ensure its integrity, purity, and suitability for sequencing. To confirm the presence of Human Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1), the sample was verified using PCR with primers specific to HSV-1. After successful verification, the DNA was subjected to whole genome sequencing to obtain a comprehensive genetic profile of the viral strain. Location: Basrah, Iraq.
