<p>3D scan of a woman representing “Garnet” – The Eroticism of the Stone. From the raw crystal material at the base of the caryatid’s column emerges the figure of a femme fatale: in a playful, almost erotic pose, she is putting on a necklace of garnets. Her bare upper body is adorned with a brooch featuring a faun’s face. As a Dionysian symbol, it emphasises not only the wild natural forces of the gemstone, but also its eroticism.</p><p>The figure was created by Rudolf Weyr (1847-1914) and is part of the decorative program in Hall IV of the Natural History Museum Vienna.</p>
