Quinoline Ring C−H Bond Activation in Bis(3,5-di-<i>tert</i>-butylsalicylidene)-8-aminoquinoline Bis(trimethylsilyl)amido Lanthanide Complexes

Reaction of Ln[N(TMS)2]3 with a stoichiometric amount of HL (HL = 3,5-But2-2-(OH)-C6H2CHN-8-C9H6N) at 40 °C resulted in the new complexes L′Ln(THF)·THF (Ln = Y(1), Yb(2); L′ = [3,5-But2-2-(O)-C6H2CHN-8-C9H6N 3,5-But2-2-(O)-C6H2CH-(N)-8-C9H6N]3−) via metalation of a ligand quinoline ring in L2LnN(TMS)2 formed in situ, followed by the attack of the newly formed aryl species at the imine group of the second ligand.
