Poecilia formosa genome sequencing, assembly, and annotation

The Amazon molly is a unisexual, gynogenetically reproducing species which has not experienced any of the consequences associated with asexuality that are predicted by evolutionary theory. As part of our investigation into the mechanisms facilitating the prolonged persistence of this lineage, we sequenced and assembled the Amazon molly genome at a chromosome scale. We perform structural annotation on this genome with the BRAKER (https://genome.cshlp.org/content/early/2024/05/28/gr.278090.123.abstract) pipeline using a protein ortholog database and existing transcriptomic data from this species, and functional annotation using eggNOG-mapper (https://academic.oup.com/mbe/article/38/12/5825/6379734).
