Schistosoma japonicum Raw sequence reads

Ecological variability exists within some Schistosoma japonicum species, but previous studies have found limited genetic heterogeneity to reflect observed phenetic distinctiveness. Here, we directly sequenced the mitochondrial and nuclear genomes of seven distinct populations of this species from China. For the first time, we construct their phylogenic relationships using thousands of orthologous gene sequences, quantitate genetic variation, and investigate selected immunogenic and other molecules likely involved in host attack. These genomic resources and the approach employed here should enable future population genetic and epidemiology investigations and an assessment of the potential of new vaccine and drug targets for schistosomiasis japonica.
