Rice chromosome 3 has been sequenced and annotated by The Rice Chromosome 3 Sequencing Consortium. Consortium members were The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), Arizona Genomics Institute (AGI), Clemson University Genomics Institute (CUGI), Arizona Genomics Computational Laboratory (AGCoL), Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), Washington University School of Medicine Genome Sequencing Center (WUGSC), University of Wisconsin, and Purdue University. They annotated 97% of the chromosome 3 (36.1 Mb) genome. 5915 genes were annotated of which 913 were found to be related to transposable elements and 3064 genes were assigned a putative function.
