The surface water extent dataset was developed by the wetland remote sensing research team of Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Its spatial resolution is 250 m and its temporal resolution is 8 days, the time span is 2000 to 2020. Surface water refers to the open water visible on the land surface, including lakes, rivers, reservoirs, etc. The product was developed based on the global surface water NDVI threshold spatiotemporal parameter dataset using the long-term MODIS image time series (2000-2020) with the aid of the remote sensing big data cloud platform. This product, which was verified using the Global Surface Water Explorer (GSWE) water product, has an overall accuracy of 96%, kappa of 0.9, and the user's accuracy and producer's accuracy are 97% and 90%. The meaning of the attribute value is (preliminary extracted surface water 1 and temporal interpolated surface water 2 were merged into 1): 1 Water, 3 Ice and Snow, 4 Land, 5 Mountain Shadows, 6 Clouds. The naming rule of the data file is: "Left longitude_right longitude_low latitude_up latitude_grid latitude and longitude grid order (from 0, left to right, bottom to top sorting) _grid longitude size_grid latitude size (7-5 represents 7.5 degrees) _start year-end year", where positive latitude and longitude indicate north latitude and east longitude, and negative latitude and longitude indicate south latitude and west longitude. Example: -18_54_16_26_grid0_6_5_2000-2020, this data is the 0th grid between 18°W and 54°E, between 16°N and 26°N, whose longitude size is 6 degrees and latitude size is 5 degrees. Each tif data file has 955 layers, representing the surface water of the corresponding date (from 2000-02-26 to 2020-12-31 with 8-day temporal resolution), and the specific date information of each layer is listed in BandDate2000-2020.xlsx.
