LTER - Long-Term Ecological Research Program/H.J. Andrews Forest (AND)
LTER/AND012 [Summary adapted from the LTER Core Data Set Catalog]:
This study is designed to examine the rates of succession, and measure
mortality and growth in representative forest types in the Pacific
Northwest. Permanent plots with tagged trees were established in
forest stands selected to represent various forest types and stages of
succession. At intervals of 1-10 years, stands are reinventoried to
examine growth, ingrowth and mortality.
The Andrews Forest is in the western Cascade Range of Oregon in the
15,800-acre drainage basin of the Lookout Creek, a tributary of Blue
River and the McKenzie River. The area elevation ranges from 1350
feet to 5340 feet and contains excellent examples of Pacific Northwest
conifer forests, wildlife, and ecosystems.
