Location-referenced Acoustic and Satellite Telemetry Papers

Publications based on aquatic telemetry studies were identified using ISI Web of Science® searches. To identify publications based on moored receiver acoustic telemetry, the following search terms, 'acoustic', 'ultrasonic', and 'sonic' proceeded by each of the words 'telemetry', 'tracking' and 'tag' were used. To identify publications based on pop-off and positional satellite telemetry, the search terms, 'satellite', 'PSAT', and 'SPOT' proceeded by each of the words 'telemetry', 'tracking' and 'tag' were used. In addition, any papers cited within these publications, and not present in the original searches, were included. All papers published up to December 31st 2013 were included. This identified 555 acoustic and 551 satellite telemetry based studies, organised in the lists (word files) by year then alphabetically by first author, with a numerical ID. The associated excel spreadsheets contain study locations, species information and IUCN Red List status (as of December 31st 2013) and are organised by the same format as the publication lists. Study locations and species information were obtained directly from the text. Locations associated with the acoustic telemetry papers represent the center point of the array, and for satellite telemetry papers represent release location. Where multiple release locations were presented, within a 100 km radius, an average latitude and longitude were calculated. IUCN Red List status were obtained directly from the official IUCN Red List website (www.iucnredlist.org).
