<b>Master of Translation and Interpretation Practice Report: A Move Analysis of a New Reporting Genre by Chinese Students</b>

This study conducted a move analysis of a new reporting genre that is central to translation and interpretation education in China. Based on a set of corpora with 60 texts collected from 30 universities located in 16 provinces in China, the macro-structural organization of the new reporting genre was investigated. Employing move analysis, moves of this reporting genre were identified based on their rhetorical functions with support from some linguistic features as clues. As part of the study, the structural variations between the two closely related subgenres of this reporting genre were also examined. The findings revealed that this reporting genre contains five macro-structural organization units consisting of 22 moves, which differs from those of the empirical research genres. The study also found discipline-specific variations of moves in terms of the rhetorical status due to different disciplinary conventions and practices of the two subdisciplines. This study may hopefully bring pedagogical benefits to student translators and interpreters in the writing of this genre. Also, it is expected to expand the horizon of genre analysis and to add the variety of the genre family in ESP field. The limitation of the study existed in that it is restricted to macro-structure and moves irrespective of the steps within each move and other genre features.
