Solid state batteries (Li-SSBs) offer a potential route to address the poor range, slow charging, and safety issues associated with current Li-ion batteries in cars, by utilizing lithium metal anodes. One of the limitations of the solid electrolytes used in Li-SSBs is their comparatively poor ionic conductivities when compared to their liquid counterparts, due to a different restricted conduction mechanism. Understanding the fundamental nature of the conduction mechanism in solids is pivotal to designing suitable electrolytes with improved ion mobility. This proposal aims to elucidate the role of Li vibrational dynamics on Li-ion motion utilising different isotopic masses.
