VPRS 4398 Unregistered Correspondence Regarding the Dismissal of W. Le Souef from the Office of Assistant Protector of Aborigines, North Eastern District

This series contains unregistered correspondence relating to the charges brought against Assistant Protector W Le Souef for misappropriation of government funds and labour, the Board of inquiry established to investigate these charges and his subsequent dismissal. Included are letters from Le Souef to La Trobe regarding the charges made against him and commenting on Robinson's administration of the Protectorate; declarations and statements of persons employed at the Goulburn River Aboriginal Station regarding provisions issued to Le Souef and the latter's conduct and also vouchers and accounts of provisions issued. Also included is a report by Crown Lands Commissioner Airey and Assistant Protector Parker of their investigations into Le Souef's administration of the Goulburn River Aboriginal Station.
