The genome and transcriptome of the dicot infecting smut fungus Thecaphora thlaspeos

We present genomic and transcriptomic data of Thecaphora thlaspeos, a relative of the well-studied grass smut Ustilago maydis and the only known smut fungus that adapted to Brassicaceae hosts including the model species Arabis alpina. Its capability to overwinter with its perennial hosts and its systemic infection of the entire plant are unique characteristics among smut fungi. T. thlaspeos has a typical smut genome with a set of candidate effector genes that comprises typical smut and unique members. In addition we include transcriptional responses of Ar. hirsuta towards T. thlaspeos infection.
