资源简介:
This collection is referred to as "Salamonie Reservoir Maps N.D.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is one quarter (0.25) of a linear inch. The collection consists of oversized maps of the Salamonie Reservoir in Huntington and Wabash Counties and two handwritten notes, but it did not include a final report. The collection was received without any association to a particular investigation. It is likely that this is due to the documents’ large size and cartographic contents. Specifically, there are eleven aerial maps of the Salamonie Reservoir, a Salamonie Reservoir Township and Range Map, and an overlay, draft map matching the township and range map in this collection. Also included in this collection is a printed, draft map of the Salamonie Reservoir in four pieces glued to a poster board with multiple numbers without county designations. These numbers seem to match the archaeological sites marked on the aerial maps. Multiple archaeological site numbers were handwritten on nine of the eleven aerial maps. Various other markings were recorded on the aerial maps as well as the handwritten notes including “Flakes….by Cochran” and “Location of strip at time of survey” on aerial map 8169-272-7B, and “Underwater at time of survey” on aerial map 18069-272-13-L. The two handwritten notes attached to the aerial maps were adhered to acid-free paper with mending tissue, and placed in the oversized records series folders. The oversized maps were cleaned with Absorene and any tears were mended with mending tissue. Acidic tape was left on scanned asset number 1039-0002 to maintain the integrity of the information recorded on the map. This oversized document collection may be associated with the following Ball State University projects that focused work on the Salamonie Reservoir: Franklin County Mounds State Recreation Area 1977, Archaeological Field Reconnaissance at Dora-New Holland Recreation Area 1979, Archaeological Field Reconnaissance and Intensive Assessment at State Recreation Areas 1979, Archaeological Field Reconnaissance Salamonie Reservoir Wildlife Ponds 1979, Archaeological Field Reconnaissance Salamonie Reservoir Visitor's Center 1980, and Salamonie Reservoir Survey 1982. It seems most likely that these documents are associated with the Salamonie Reservoir Survey 1982 project. This is due to overlap of multiple archaeological site numbers recorded on the oversized maps and those mentioned in Salamonie Reservoir Survey 1982 project’s final report, Report of Investigation 7. The Salamonie Reservoir township and range map is dated February 1981, which may be the date of publication or a date associated with the project time frame. Either instance narrows down the investigation’s date to after 1981. Also, five site distribution maps from the final report for the Salamonie Reservoir Survey 1982 project line up with the map in the oversized collection that has four maps pieced together, and glued to the poster board (Wepler and Cochran 1982: 183).
