资源简介:
Data for “A diminutive snake species can maintain regional heterothermy in both homogenous and heterogenous thermal environments” by Cox et al in Journal of Experimental Biology. Dipu_thermal_heterogeneity_snakes.csv This file contains all raw data on attributes of snakes collected in the field, including snake morphometrics, body temperature, and temperature of rocks in the field. ID=snake ID, Sex= F for female and M for male, Tail_length_mm = the length of the tail in mm, Tail_broken=1 if the tail was previously broken and 0 if unbroken, Mass_g= mass in g, gravid=1 if gravid, 0 if not gravid, shed= whether the snake was in ecdysis, with 1 for snakes in shed and 0 for snakes not in shed, Date_captured for the capture date of snakes, rock_ID= the ID that was assigned to rocks where each snake was found, Time_captured indicates the time of capture, ambient_temp indicates the ambient temperature at capture, time_elapsed indicates the amount of time that elapsed between snake capture and measurement of the final temperature. Mouth_temp and Internal_cloaca_temp indicate the temperature measured internally using a thermocouple. Dorsal_head_temp_C, dorsal_anterior_midbody_C, dorsal_posterior_midbody_C, and dorsal_cloacal_surface_temp_C indicate the temperature in C of external temperatures of snakes on the dorsal surface using an IR thermometer. External temperatures on the ventral surface are indicated in a similar fashion. Temperature_measurement_order_temp indicates the order in which temperature was taken, with H=head, T=tail, D=dorsal, and V=ventral. A1_rock through D4_rock indicate the temperature based upon a grid of the underside of the rock under which the snakes were found. A1_substrate through D4_substrate indicate the temperature of the substrate based upon a grid underneath the rock under which the snakes were found. Note that some cells have missing values because the shape and size of the rock or rock substrate did not encompass the entire grid. Dipu_thermal_heterogeneity_lab.csv This file contains body temperature and related data for snakes maintained at ambient temperature in the laboratory. ID=snake ID, time_recorded= the time at which the data were recorded and Lab-date= the date that the data was collected. Air_temp indicates the ambient temperature at the beginning of measurement for each snake, and container_substrate_temp indicates the temperature on the bottom of the container with the snakes. Posture=notes on the posture of the snake, with Head_off? And Coiled? coded as binary variables, with 1 = behavior present and 0= behavior not present. Dipu_thermal_heterogeneity_Tbgradient.csv This file contains body temperature and related data for snakes maintained in a thermal gradient in the laboratory. ID=snake ID, time_recorded= the time at which the data were recorded and Lab-date= the date that the data was collected. Pre_tile_surface_temp_cool and Pre_tilesurface_temp_hot indicate the warmest and coolest temperatures in the gradient prior to the trial. Trial_start_time indicates the time at which the trial was started. External temperatures on the ventral surface are indicated in a similar fashion. . Temperature_measurement_order_temp indicates the order in which temperature was taken, with H=head, T=tail, D=dorsal, and V=ventral. Post_tile_surface_temp_cool and Post_tilesurface_temp_hot indicate the warmest and coolest temperatures in the gradient after the trial. Post_posture=notes on the posture of the snake, with Head_off? And Coiled? coded as binary variables, with 1 = behavior present and 0= behavior not present. Trial_end_time indicates the end of the trial. A1_tile through D4_tile indicate the temperature based upon a grid of the underside of the tile under which the snakes were found. A1_substrate through D4_substrate indicate the temperature of the substrate based upon a grid underneath the tile under which the snakes were found. Head_cell indicates the grid cell in which the cell was found, body_cell indicates all cells in which the body was present, and tail_cell indicates the cell in which the tail was found. Dipu_thermal_heterogeneity_fieldrocks.csv This file contains the temperature attributes of all rocks measured, including rocks both with and without snakes. Rock_ID indicates the id of each rock that was measured, Date indicates the date of measurement, and Snake_present indicates whether a snake was present under the rock. Note that one rock with a snake present is repeated, that is because snakes were found on different days and so the thermal characteristics differed. A1_rock through D4_rock indicate the temperature based upon a grid of the underside of each rock. A1_substrate through D4_substrate indicate the temperature of the substrate based upon a grid underneath each rock. Note that some cells have missing values because the shape and size of the rock or rock substrate did not encompass the entire grid.
