Pseudospectral Indicators in Continuum Systems: Transient Amplification in Linearized PDE Models

资源简介:
Abstract We investigate transient amplification in continuum systems governed by linearized partial differential equations. While classical stability analysis relies on spectral properties of the associated differential operators, we demonstrate that non-normality leads to significant transient growth even in spectrally stable regimes. Using pseudospectral analysis and semigroup theory, we derive bounds for amplification in linearized continuum models. We introduce a continuum formulation of the K-functional and establish conditions under which perturbations grow to operationally significant levels. The framework provides a mathematical basis for identifying early-stage amplification phenomena in large-scale physical systems.
