资源简介:
PAH concentrations in marine sediments, lagoon water, and blue mussels collected from Nelson Lagoon in 2004 and 2005. Data are in spreadsheet format.
Three techniques were used to measure hydrocarbon contamination in the relatively pristine and extremely valuable marine environment
of Nelson Lagoon. As expected, hydrocarbon levels were low, but some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were detected. Bioaccumulation of some PAHs
was evident by examining the tissues of blue mussels (Mytilus edulis). Water sampling, using semipermeable membrane devices revealed similar results
overall, but not the same analytes. Similarly, sediment sampling detected fewer polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons overall, but some analytes were not
detected using the other two techniques. Nelson Lagoon had little hydrocarbon contamination compared to other sites, but there was evidence that some
pollutants occur in this marine environment. All three techniques detected a unique suite of analytes.
These datasets were archived as part of the North Pacific Research Board legacy project recovery effort undertaken by Axiom Data Science and NPRB in 2025. The goal of the recovery effort was to assess the NPRB-funded data projects from 2002 to 2014 and archive final data packages that were ready for publication to increase long-term accessibility and discoverability. Data packages were archived as is given limited funding and resources.
