THE IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION AND DIGITAL COMMUNICATION ON ENGLISH VOCABULARY

This article examines the impact of globalization and digital communication on the development of English vocabulary in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Globalization has turned English into a global lingua franca, while the rapid spread of the internet, social media, and mobile communication has accelerated the emergence of new words, abbreviations, and semantic shifts. The paper analyzes the main mechanisms of lexical enrichment, including blending, borrowing, clipping, acronymy, and semantic extension, and discusses how digital platforms shape the way new lexical units are created, spread, and standardized. The results show that globalization and digital communication act as two interrelated forces that continuously reshape the English lexicon, making it more dynamic, informal, and internationally shared.
