This article analyzes the scientific and methodological foundations of directing students to engineering professions. In our country, in the conditions of modernization of industry, development of the digital economy and introduction of innovative technologies, the need for qualified specialists in engineering is growing. Therefore, one of the important tasks is to form engineering thinking, technical creativity and professional interest in students from the stage of general secondary education. The study highlights effective ways of directing students to engineering professions based on the competency approach, STEAM education, project method and digital technologies.
