Exotic magnetism in the topological semimetal candidate Dy3Sn7.

Topological materials are those with unconventional properties robust to deformation and perturbation. Among them, of much recent interest are so-called topological semimetals (TSMs), which possess high charge carrier mobilities and may host quasiparticles analogous to those studied in high-energy physics. The presence of magnetic ordering within a TSM is expected to lead to a variety of exotic physical phenomena, however such materials are rare. We have established the intermetallic compound Dy3Sn7 as a potential magnetic TSM. Our data show that Dy3Sn7 displays high carrier mobilities and low effective masses at low temperatures, both characteristic features of a TSM. Importantly, Dy3Sn7 orders magnetically below 20 K. Therefore, we seek to use WISH to determine the magnetic structure of Dy3Sn7 below 20 K in order to better understand the interplay between topology and magnetism.
