Salvia sclarea is a traditional medicinal and aromatic plant in Europe which produces various economically important compounds, including terpenoids, flavonoids and phenolic acids. However, how methyl jasmonate (MeJA), a well-known elicitor, enhance production of secondary metabolites in Salvia medicinal plants is totally unknown. After MeJA induction, genes related to the biosynthesis of various compounds may exhibit different trends in transcriptional activity in Salvia plants. We performed genome-wide temporal expression analysis in S. sclarea leaves and roots. The transcriptome profiles of S. sclarea plants at 10 hours (T10) and 26 hours (T26) after MeJA treatment and of control plants (T0) were analyzed by Illumina RNA-seq.
