Old-age dependency ratio in Africa 2000-2021

In 2021, the old-age dependency ratio in Africa was 6.2 percent. This meant that there were around six people aged 65 years and older per 100 working-age population (aged 15-64 years). The old-age dependency ratio on the continent generally increased in the period examined. Yet it remained significantly lower than the child dependency ratio. This is because the elderly population in Africa is considerably less consistent than that of children.
