CT data of coprolites from the Permian Rio do Rasto Formation (Brazil) – Supplement to Catafesta et al. (2025)

This dataset contains micro-CT data of selected coprolites from the middle/upper Permian Rio do Rasto Formation (Paraná Basin, Brazil). These data are supplementary to the study: Catafesta, L. Palaeoworld. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.palwor.2025.201060 The study analyzed 97 coprolites from 11 sites in southern Brazil. External and internal features were investigated using thin sections, SEM, and computed tomography. The CT data presented here derive from two coprolites (UFRGS-PV-0535-P and UFRGS-PV-0374-P), scanned at the Micro-CT Laboratory, University of Silesia (Poland), using a GE v|tome|x s system with a DXR250 detector (2024 × 2024 pixels, 14-bit depth, 0.2 mm pixel size) at 180 kV and 150 µA with a 0.1 mm Cu filter. The voxel size was 33 µm, with 1300 projections over 360°. Reconstructions were processed with Phoenix datos|x 2 software and analyzed in VGStudio MAX 2.1.1 and Avizo. These CT datasets enable non-destructive visualization of internal structures and inclusions (e.g., fish scales, bone fragments, plant remains, insect wing, fungi, cyanobacteria, helminth eggs) preserved within coprolites. They provide direct evidence of dietary patterns, parasitic relationships, and paleoecological interactions in the Permian Rio do Rasto Formation.
