Telecommunications Spend and Demand Report in Victoria, 2012

The Victorian Government commissioned Deloitte Access Economics to develop a\r\nmodel of Victoria’s telecommunications market to provide a tool for government\r\nand market participants to analyse trends, identify unmet demand and to assist\r\nin planning for the future. This review is an update of a study undertaken in\r\n2010 for the then Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development\r\nby Access Economics and Gibson Quai-AAS, with an extension of the projection\r\nperiod out to 2016. \r\nThe model contains estimates of current (2011) service coverage, demand for\r\nservices, expenditure and subscriber numbers for 10 telecommunication service\r\ncategories, as well as forecasts to 2016. The spatial building block of the\r\nmodel and the lowest level of reporting is at the level of Local Government\r\nAreas (LGAs). The model also includes broader regional aggregates, and\r\ndistinguishes between household and business customers. \r\nThe timing of this modelling exercise, at the early stages of rollout of the\r\nFederal Government’s National Broadband Network (NBN) and during a period of\r\nrapid development of new applications for telecommunications technologies, is\r\ndesigned to capture and identify recent and forthcoming changes in Victoria’s\r\ntelecommunications markets. The model has been built with the intention that\r\nit can be updated in future years, to include updated data and to reflect\r\nemerging market trends. \r\n \r\n\r\n
