Photograph of Charlotta Bass, left, publisher of the California Eagle, enjoying dinner conversation at the National Hotel in Moscow. Bass was the guest of Wayland Rudd, second from right, an African-American who went to Moscow in 1932 to star in a movie and remained in the U.S.S.R. In 1950, when he met Bass, Rudd was manager-director of one of Moscow's largest movie theaters. The other two diners are unidentified.
