The 4th instar larvae and their sloughs, and the 5th instar larvae of day 0, 3 and 6 post ecdysis of silkworm were washed with buffer to collect cuticular bacteria. At least eight repeats were prepared for each sample. DNA was extracted and amplified with the universal 16S V4 primers 515F and 806R. The products were used to generate the amplicon libraries for sequencing with the Illumina Miseq system.
