We carried out the extraction of the maximum water extent (≥ 0.1 hm²) of glacial lakes in Xinjiang in 2022 using Sentinel-2 time-series data and the DUNet semantic segmentation model in conjunction with visual interpretation and quality control. Based on the relationship between glacial lakes and glaciers, the lakes were categorized into two types: glacier-fed lakes (including supraglacial lakes, glacier-contacted lakes, and glacier-uncontacted lakes) and non-glacier-fed lakes. The resulting dataset provides information on glacial lakes in the alpine mountains of Xinjiang in 2022.This dataset consists of three data files, of which (1) XJ_glacial_lake_2022 is the maximum distribution range shapefile data of glacial lakes in Xinjiang in 2022, with a data volume of 6.08 MB; (2) XJ_glacial_lake_subregion is the distribution range shapefile data of glacial lakes in Xinjiang, with a data volume of 0.50 MB; (3) XJGL _2022_statistics.xlsx is the statistical data on the number and area of glacial lakes in Xinjiang at different regions, sizes, types, and elevation scales in 2022, with a data volume of 0.63 MB.
