Sea surface temperature from Hard Hat Precision Thermistor from R/V Tangaroa cruise VDT0410 in the South East of New Zealand, S.W. Bounty Trough in 2004 (SAGE project)

<p>Sea Surface Temperature from Hard Hat Precision Thermistor<br />
<br />
Subsurface, bulk temperature measurements were taken with a precision<br />
thermometer mounted in a surface float made from a foam-filled hard<br />
hat. The thermometer is at a nominal depth of 5cm and the float has<br />
been deployed at most stations. The thermometer is sampled every second,<br />
and 20-s averages are logged.<br />

The ASCII &quot;HAT&quot; files contain measurements from a precision thermistor<br />
supported by a surface-following float, made from a &quot;hard hat&quot; filled<br />
with foam.<br />

The measurement is at a nominal depth of 5 cm. Calibration is traceable<br />
to NIST standards.<br />

There are 52 ASCII .HAT data files with names of: 04mmddx.hat<br />
where 04 = year (2004)<br />
where mm = month (03 or 04 for March and April)<br />
where dd = date<br />
where x = a/b/c for first/second/third data collection for a given day</p>
