VPRS 13700 Subject Files, Vehicle Standards and Engineering Division, Single Number System

This series comprises files stored by the Public Transport Corporation (VA 2984) under its own secondary storage program as one series (PTC 714) that was titled 'Passenger Vehicle Files'. The remaining files from the PTC 714 series were processed as VPRS 13699 General Files, Vehicle Standards and Engineering Division.The Passenger Services Division of the Public Transport Corporation inherited records from the Chief Mechanical Engineer and Chief Electrical Engineer of Victorian Railways, and the Investigation and Research Division of its Rolling Stock Branch, as well as the Engineering Department of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and of the State Transport Authority (STA).The files related to the acquisition, design, construction, maintenance, running (including electrification) and fit-out of suburban passenger trains including the Harris, the Hitachi and the Double Deck trains.The series comprises:- technical files containing plans, drawings, engineering tests and tender documentation.- contract correspondence with manufacturing companies, minutes of contract review meetings, and- various project files
