This dataset represents 3,544 cases from Miami’s Negro Municipal Court between September 1950 to December 1958. The data was first reported by Elliott J. Pieze, a staff writer for the historically black newspaper, The Miami Times. His recurring article, “Good Morning Judge,” cataloged case details, such as type of offense, defendant and victim names, arresting officer, presiding judge, and sentencing when applicable. In some instances, additional data was reported. These articles were digitized from 35mm film and all statistical information has been recorded as reported by Pieze.
