Biodegradable plastic could be degraded by microorganisms like bacteria, and its degradation will increase when temperature increased. However, degradation of biodegradable plastic during composting is not clear. Compost from high temperature phase contains abundant microbial communities which could enhance temperature of the pile as additive in composting. This study explored the effects of mature compost on plastic degradation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during co-composting of kitchen waste and biodegradable plastics. Results will substantiate our understanding on the way of biodegradable plastic degradation.
