Recent Archeological Salvage Operations in the Missouri Basin

This is a reprint from “Progress, Missouri River Basin,” a Quarterly Report of the Interior Missouri Basin Field Committee, October-December, 1955. This document reports on archeological projects carried out during the summer of 1955. Three field units of the Missouri Basin Project of the Smithsonian Institution River Basin Surveys and four field parties sponsored by State institutions, in cooperation with the National Park Service, carried out archeological projects in two dam and reservoir areas along the Missouri River and in four reservoir areas along tributaries of the Missouri. These undertakings have contributed substantially to knowledge of the aboriginal cultures of the Missouri Basin in protohistoric and late prehistoric times.
