Ictiobus species differentiation using UCE and WGS data

Using a modified implementation of this SISRS bioinformatics package we demonstrate how, without a reference genome of any kind, genome skim data alone is sufficient for the generation of genome-scale ortholog data. We apply this to the identification of Ictiobus species from low-coverage sequence data, ultraconserved element data, and even long-read RNA-seq data. These results will guide future efforts in identifying the species of fish associated with meals that have made people sick, and will greatly accelerate the search for the causative agent associated with Haffs Disease.
