Erwinia mallotivora is the causative agent of papaya dieback disease that destroyed Malaysian papaya industry, which affecting popular varieties such as Eksotika, Solo and Sekaki. This disease can be transmitted from plant to plant or to other parts of the same plant, primarily by insects, birds, humans and rain splash. Typical symptoms of the infected plant include leaf necrosis, water soaked lesions and greasy spots. Dieback of the infected shoot will later on leads to the destruction of papaya trees. Currently, there is no method can be used to eradicate the disease except good agricultural practice as a preventive measure.
