See notes below for older file when I computer senescence for male BTPDs for cops = sexual partners. Note well: Variable = Frequency indicates the TRUE FREQUENCY FOR EACH VARIABLE SO: I must specify Frequency = Freq for all output Date = 12 June 2019 I created this file from SYSTAT file = ARS. I have deleted certain variables and all data from fems. With this file I can compare BTPD male age vs BTPD male number of different sexual partners, number of litters with >=1 sired offspring, number of sired weanlings, and number of sired yearlings Notice the last five entries, which do the following: I will use Variable = Freq in this file for the WEIGHT command in SYSTAT For age 1, I have added 245 yearling males that did not cop. For age 2, I have added 36 males that did not cop. For age 3, I have added 7 males that did not cop. For age 4, I have added 2 males that did not cop. For age >=5, I have added 1 male that did not cop. Note that SYSTAT output for means for this file are IDENTICAL to means calculated by hand. For males of age 2, I had 10 cases for which I evidently knew that the male copulated (i.e., was sexually active), but I did not know his exact number of different sexual partners. For males of age 3, I had one case for which I evidently knew that the male copulated (i.e., was sexually active, but I did not know his exact number of different sexual partners) So, for 2-year old males, I had good data for the number of sexual partners for 148 males that copulated - 10 cases for which I did now know the exact number of sexual partners = 138 So, for 3-year old males, I had good data for the number of sexual partners for 68 males that I knew copulated - 1 case for which I did now know the exact number of sexual partners = 67 For ages 1, 4, and 5, I knew the exact number of different sexual partners for all males that copped This file has been checked TWO TIMES. Sired litters = litters for which male sired >=1 juvenile, and thus includes information from litters with multiple paternity. Sex = 1 = Male I created file = ARS.SYS on 21 September 1989 Date for file = ARS.SYS were checked TWO TIMES back in 1989. I have checked the additions/revisions listed above for new information at end of file TWO TIMES on 15 Feb 2022 Sired litters and sired weanlings for BTPDs were confirmed by electrophoresis of blood samples. Litter size = litter size at first emergence of offspring from their natal nursery-burrow = number of weanlings. Yearlings = number of weanlings that survive for >= 9 months after first emergence Birthyear = year when male was born and weaned These data used for Fig 12.2 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 02 May 2025. I considered data from the same prairie dog in different years to be independent. File name = Fig 12.2, BTPDs, Senescence for male ARS, 02 May 2025 File name = Fig 12.2, Top left, BTPDs, age vs cops, weanlings, yrls, 23 March 2026 This file does not have information about individual ID (eartag number) Sex partners = number of different females with whom male copulated Sired litters = number of litters for which the male sired >=1 emergent juvenile = weanling Sired weanling = number of weanlings sired by male Sired yearlings = number of yearlings sired by male Data on siring success comes form behavioral observations of copulations in combination with electrophoresis of blood samples to assign paternities File name = Fig 12.2, Top left, BTPDs, age vs cops, weanlings, yrls, 23 March 2026
