Exploration Permit for Minerals 17165, Quamby, was granted in 2014 to explore for iron oxide–copper–gold style mineralisation within the Eastern Succession of the Mount Isa Inlier. The tenement is centred approximately 45 km north-northwest of Cloncurry. The tenement demonstrated limited potential for economic copper mineralisation, and no targets were identified that warranted further follow-up.
As a result, Austral Resources Exploration Pty Ltd made the corporate decision not to renew EPM 17165 upon its expiry on 22 July 2025, allowing the company to focus personnel and expenditure on higher-priority tenements with greater exploration potential.
