Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most prevalent cause of dementia worldwide and currently incurable. The lack of accessible non-invasive tools to examine the molecular alterations occurring in the brain limits our understanding of the causes and progression of this heterogeneous disease, as well as the identification of therapeutic strategies. Here, we conducted a transcriptome-wide profiling of cell-free messenger RNA (cf-mRNA) in plasma of 126 AD patients and 115 age-matched controls. Our data highlight the potential of plasma cf-mRNA profiling as a non-invasive approach to evaluate physiological alterations in the brain, with the prospect of improving various aspects of AD patient management and drug development.
