Stem rot disease caused by S. sclerotiorum in oilseed Brassica has emerged as a devastating pathogenic crisis in many parts of the world including India. For understanding gene-to-gene host resistance basic research on effectively differentiating geographical races of the pathogen is pivotal. ESR-01 a consistently virulent isolate of the pathogen S. sclerotiorum was sequenced and denovo assembled. The whole-genome secretome analysis revealed >50% of the effector repertoir were unique to Indian isolate as compare to the isolate '1980' which has already been sequenced. The differential virulence of the pathogen S. sclerotiorum over the oilseed-Brassica is majorily determined by the presence of the effector candidates and their infection mechanism which may differ in isolates of the same species belonging to different geographical region.
