<p><strong>Date Created: </strong>August 2025<br /><strong>Update Frequency:</strong> Daily from Mondays to Fridays, excluding statutory holidays<br /><strong>Last Reviewed:</strong> August 2025</p><p><strong>Accuracy, Completeness, and Known Issues:</strong></p><p>Outbreak data are extracted by OPH from the integrated Public Health Information System (iPHIS), Ontario Ministry of Health.<br />iPHIS is a dynamic disease reporting system that allows for ongoing updates; data represent a snapshot at the time of extraction and may differ from previous or subsequent extractions.&nbsp;</p><p><br />Outbreaks and associated fields (e.g., cases, deaths, closure dates) were reported and determined based on the definitions available from the Ontario Ministry of Health at the time the outbreak was reported. &nbsp;</p><p><br />The start date is based on the date the outbreak was reported to Ottawa Public Health and declared an outbreak. The symptom onset date of the index case typically precedes this date.&nbsp;</p><p><br />Includes all closed, confirmed outbreaks in Ottawa long-term care homes, retirement homes, and hospitals reported to Ottawa Public Health during the period from January 1, 2020 to date.&nbsp;</p><p><br />Use caution when analyzing by “Location Name” due to variation in the description, spelling and case of the names. iPHIS utilizes a free text field for “Location Name”.</p><p><br />Outbreak case and death counts are typically only reported two weeks post outbreak closure due to data entry lag into the disease reporting systems. Counts may include cases that are not laboratory-confirmed.</p><p><br />As of November 14, 2022, all symptomatic individuals in healthcare institutions (long-term care homes, retirement homes, public hospitals) may be tested for influenza and RSV, while only the first 4 symptomatic individuals are tested for other respiratory viruses (e.g. parainfluenza).
