Natural Hazards Research Summit 2022: Influence of Subsurface Spatial Variability on Ground Deformations in Earthquakes

Earthquake ground deformations at sites with interlayered soil deposits are often over-predicted by common simplified procedures. A system-level workflow that integrates detailed subsurface modeling with two-dimensional (2D) nonlinear dynamic analyses (NDAs) is used to re-evaluate the spatial extent and magnitude of deformations at three well documented post-earthquake case history sites. This poster provides an overview of the case studies from three related journal papers, and can be used as a guide to understanding the relationship between those studies.
