Factors influencing appearance appeals for decreasing unsafe tanning behaviors

Participants completed an online survey in which they viewed messaging that differed according to content (aging-related vs. blemish-related) and graphic image use (present vs. not present). It was found that aging messages were more effective for men than for women at reducing unsafe high-end tanning intentions. Additionally, graphic images were found to have effectively decreased unsafe high-end tanning intentions.
