Venus GIS
收藏资源简介:
Venus GIS is a multilayer GIS of the surface geology of Venus with GIS-ready geospatial (higher-order) data / Analysis ready (higher-order) data (ARD). This GIS serves as a base dataset for initiating geologic investigations of Venus or for mission planning. The dataset includes manually created catalogs of surface features and landforms compiled from the scientific literature published since the Magellan mission. It also contains all USGS quadrangle maps in georeferenced raster format, and those available in GIS format are also included as GIS layers. Version 1.0 was produced for internal use initially. It included a complete ArcGIS project layout and data in one single file. This upload includes v 1.0. The upload includes all catalog layers in Shapefile, GeoJSON, and also in Excel format for point features. The VenusGIS inventory Excel file shows all layer's names and references. Version 1.1 (this upload) also includes “nonQuad” geologic maps produced outside the USGS quadrangle mapping pipeline, provided as georeferenced rasters, as well as the complete photographed and georeferenced sheets of the geomorphological map of Venus published in the Soviet Union. Most datasets in this release had previously been published elsewhere in other formats; here they have been collected, digitized, and prepared for GIS use. Many files and datasets included in this upload are in the public domain (e.g., USGS maps) or are supporting tables from scientific papers. Other datasets, tables, and catalogs are included with the permission of the authors. Some datasets had never been published previously and were provided directly by the authors for this project. No Magellan SAR radar or altimetry data is included in this post. Data curator: Henrik Hargitai. This upload is part of the Venus GIS project, supported by the VERATAC PRODEX project of the European Space Agency (ESA), contract no. 4000144802. Abstract: Hargitai, H., Szabó, D., Vincze, M., and Kereszturi, Á.: An integrated, feature-based Geographic Information System for Venus, EPSC-DPS Joint Meeting 2025, Helsinki, Finland, 7–12 Sep 2025, EPSC-DPS2025-1305, https://doi.org/10.5194/epsc-dps2025-1305, 2025. Online demonstration The capabilities of this GIS are demonstrated at https://hargitaih.web.elte.hu/vgis/ (under development) Updates, additions: This dataset is intended to be a living document and will be regularly updated. Please submit any published, peer-reviewed or online available new or revised catalogs of Venus surface features to hargitaihi@protonmail.com for inclusion in the dataset. Your data will be incorporated into the Arc package and also converted to JSON for compatibility with geospatial platforms, with references to the original source indicated.
