LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA: South Burnett and Gympie Regional Councils

LOCATION: The resources are approximately 6 km east of Murgon and 68 km west of Gympie near the Bunya Highway (see map KRA 145).

EXTRACTIVE RESOURCE: Sand

EXTRACTIVE RESOURCE DESCRIPTION: Extensive colluvial sand deposits occur throughout the rural land northwest of Manyung, however the proposed resource areas are defined by the distribution of cultivated rural lots and proximity of dwellings. There are two separate resource areas with the northern site situated on the border of South Burnett and Gympie Regional Councils.

SIGNIFICANCE: This site has produced sand for concrete aggregate in the past and sufficient sand appears to be present to cater for several years or decades of supply to the immediate region. It may be able to supplant imported sand from riverine sources in other regions.

SEPARATION AREA: A separation distance of 200 metres is adopted as the extraction is likely to require mechanical means (ripping or digging) to extract sand.

TRANSPORT ROUTE: A potential transport route exits the resource/processing areas along Wittons Road and Manyung Road to reach the Bunya Highway between Murgon and Goomeri.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: The resource area has been drawn to indicate areas where the available geological information is favourable and a limited number of landholdings are affected. Resources may be proven around outcrops of the same geological unit in the surrounding district with further investigation. Parts of the sandstone are covered by RE 12.9-10.18 ('of concern').
