CH ELC - 2025

This layer contains the Ecological Land Classifcation (ELC) polygons identified for Conservation Halton. Various external and internal data sources have been incorporated into this database, i.e. CVC, Hamilton NAI study, various CH watershed studies, etc. The ELC polygons created by CH internal sources undergo a two-step process: first a three-letter Community Series code and description is assigned to each polygon base on air photo interpretation of 2002 orthophotos. Where field work is conducted, the ELC polygons are ground truthced and further classified, and assigned more detailed Ecosite or Vegetation Type codes and descriptions. The ELC codes and descriptions assigned in this dataset follow the Ecological Land Classification for Southern Ontario First Approximation and Its Application SCSS Field Guide FG-02 September 1998 Edition. Supplemental information providing details on the specific ELC codes and descriptions and the domains and subtypes used in this dataset are described further in the SCSS Field Guide FG-02.
