资源简介:

10 ice cores were collected during the 1997/98 field season as part of the EPICA (European Programme of Ice Coring in Antarctica) DML (Dronning Maud Land) project. The main target was a 100m core at the BAS fuel depot (M1). A series of four 10m satellite cores were drilled 5km to the South, West, East and North of the main borehole (cores M2, M3, M4 & M5) to assess the local spatial variability of the ice core records. A series of five 20m ice cores were drilled to the East and West of the main borehole. To the East at 100km (core M6) and on a traverse to the West at 100km (M7), 200km (M8), 300km (M9) and 365km (M10). These cores are to characterise the spatial gradient in chemistry and physical charactersitics across the western DML region and link in the the Berkner Island ice core records. In addition, a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey was carried out on the western traverse, collecting a continuous GPR profile using a Pulse-Ekko 1000 radar system. It is hoped to compare the physico-chemical properties of the cores with the GPR measurements made in the same location.
